The following is Part 7 of a seven week “Reality Radio” series. The series was advertised on secular radio and unfolded online at a special website that no longer exists.
Do you ever feel a faint calling…a drawing that is deep within you…a longing to possess or attain to something that is seemingly beyond yourself? You are not alone. Every single human being has this same “sense” within them. It’s almost as if we were designed with that “sense” implanted within our being. As if it’s not really our choice to believe – that the belief is actually hardwired into our being.
You say, “But what about the Atheist who believes in the Big Bang?” My response is simple…there is more than scientific evidence that causes one to believe in the Big Bang. There is a “calling” or a “drawing” or a “longing” to possess, attain or understand where we came from…and why we’re here. That “sense” is no different whether one is Atheist or a Christian or Jewish or Muslim or Buddhist.
You say, “So what is the difference?” The difference is that one who places His faith in God places his faith in a personal power…while the one who places His faith in the “chance” behind Big Bang places his faith in an impersonal power. One is a personal power or relationship with God. One is an impersonal power or relationship to chance or science. But both require an equal amount of faith! There are not those who lean on faith and those who don’t need the crutch of faith…we all have faith in something…or Someone.
When we put our faith in Someone – God – we are returning home. Returning home to knowledge of God’s presence. A knowledge that says we are His children…that He loves us…that He has been seeking us…and that He deeply desires that we know Him. And when we return home, we quickly realize that we did not find God – we realize that He came to us to bring us back home to Him.
Jesus is the God who offers life forever in Heaven after we die. Jesus is the God who goes beyond the walls of the church in order to find His lost children…and bring them back home…to Him…to knowing Him. If you know of a church of one hundred or one thousand or ten thousand people, Jesus will literally leave that group of believers to go beyond that community to find you! You are who He is looking for. You are only ONE PERSON and yet Jesus is looking for you…
You can know Jesus Christ…
If you have never felt any shame or guilt or sin, you don’t need Jesus. If that’s true, you’re doing well on your own. There is no reason to come to a God who offers salvation if you do not feel you are in need of some kind of redemption or forgiveness.
But if you know what it feels like to sin…if you know what it’s like to be filled with some kind of guilt or shame or knowledge that you have said, thought or done things unacceptable to God…then Jesus is calling you home to Himself.
If you would like to come home to Jesus, this is a great time of the year to do just that. We’re in the Lenten Season, a 40-day period that will soon end with our celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. God so loved you that He sent His one and only son to die on a cross for your sins.
This next Friday is called Good Friday…that’s the day Jesus was placed on and died on the Cross for our sins. It was not a good day for Jesus…but it was a GREAT day for us because He paid the penalty for our many sins.
This next Sunday is Easter as you know – the day Jesus rose from the dead. In rising from the dead, He overcame the power of sin, disease and death. To be sure, we will continue to sin because our nature is sinful. We can overcome sin if we rely totally upon Christ every moment of our lives – yet we as sinners tend NOT to do that…and thus we continue to sin.
To be sure, many of us will not escape pain…or disease…or accidents that maim and kill. Yet Christ will comfort us and love us and give us strength and courage needed to go through such difficult and painful times in our lives.
To be sure, we will die. The penalty for sin is death. We are all guilty of sin – there is NOT one of us that has or ever will live a life without sin. We all fall short of God’s commands. And so we can be sure of this – we all die!
So what is the Good News? The Good News is that nothing can separate us from Jesus Christ. When we surrender our lives to Him, there is no sin that will never separate us from Jesus…there is no disease that will ever separate us from Him. And even in death we will NOT be separated from Him. For in death, we have the promise that we will go straight from this world into His arms in Heaven. We will live with Him forever.
You may not have had parents who truly accepted you. You may not have had a lover who has truly been faithful to you. You may not have ever felt totally accepted and loved just because you are God’s child. You may have only experienced conditional love…or conditional acceptance. Conditional love and acceptance requires you to perform at some level or achieve some standard that makes you worthy of being loved and accepted.
God accepts you. He loves you. He knows you. And He wants you to know Him. He is saying, “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest for your soul.” He is saying, “Behold, I stand at the door of your heart and knock – and I want to come live inside you.” He is saying, “I will make you to lie down in green pastures and lead you beside still waters.” He is saying, “I will fill you up with Living Waters that will flow up within you all the way to eternal life.” He is saying, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with your whole heart…I WILL BE FOUND BY YOU.”
Have you found Him? He’s looking for you. And He’s inviting you to come home…and know Him.
This was the final part of a seven (7) week “Reality Radio” series about the life of Will. Thanks for journeying along with us…
