It was a joy to share Family Care 2012 with many families in the Greater Boston area who are seeking to relate to and extend Christ’s love to LGBT+ loved ones. I am continually touched at the depth of effort by parents to extend unconditional love to their children. Tonight, we saw the genuine passion that loving parents have for their children.
Our Family Care event featured a panel of young adults who struggle with same-sex attraction or SSA. Each one of them gave an honest portrait of the “struggle” and a beautiful testimony of God’s faithfulness. They have strong days, and they have days when it is tough. They know that this struggle does not magically disappear. They clearly shared the reality of sadness – and the surprise of finding joy in the midst of suffering.
One truth struck me most: LGBT+ individuals, their families, and those who struggle with SSA have this in common – a deep need for unconditional family acceptance and safe church community support. It is my prayer that tonight filled some of these unmet needs.
What an honor to share a wonderful evening with such courageous people. Thanks to all the volunteers who brought something delicious to eat!
