Lead Them Home preached “Journey Toward Repentance” at a Central Massachusetts church this morning. Isn’t that a departure from Lead Them Home’s focus, you may ask?
Read on and find out…
It’s funny (or not so funny). Repentance seems to fall into two traps. It is either a hammer that hurts people; or one that is left in the toolbox unused. One famous pastor that often gets mocked for “health-and-wealth” preaching ends every sermon inviting people to repent – while many pastors who criticize him will not even touch the word.
No one likes a hammer that hurts people, but abandoning such a critical word from the Bible is a dishonor to God. Lead Them Home is all for enhancing our language to ensure that people can come near God. In doing so, however, Jesus told us to “love God first” even as we love others. He always tells us to do “both.” We demand to do one or the other.
All to say: it was a sincere privilege and perfect opportunity to prove that we can honor “repentance” by using the word and teaching in detail what it means – all while avoiding it becoming a hammer. To hear the message, simply contact us for the link.
